The Nkabom Collaborative is pleased to invite you to AI, Problem Sovereignty and Africa’s Future, a special talk by Jalal Charaf, Dean of Africa Business School at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and Chair of UM6P’s AI Council on October 14, 2026 at the McGill Faculty Club.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform economies, industries and societies around the world, an important question is becoming increasingly urgent for Africa: Who defines the problems that AI is being asked to solve? Drawing on his work on « problem sovereignty, » Jalal will explore why the ability to define problems, not simply adopt technological solutions, is critical to Africa’s place in an AI-driven future.

The conversation will examine the role of local knowledge, context and leadership in shaping AI, and what this perspective can offer universities, researchers, businesses and policymakers in Canada and beyond as they consider the future of responsible and globally relevant innovation.
